About me
Welcome! I completed my general nurse training in 1987 in Lanarkshire followed with midwifery training in 1994 whilst my daughter was a young baby. As a Registered Midwife I have gained experience within all areas of NHS maternity services. I qualified as a IBCLC Lactation Consultant in 2001, with the last 14 years specialising in infant feeding supporting Health Visiting Services in North East Scotland to achieve UNICEF Baby Friendly Gold accreditation. I continue to have a remit for staff training and advanced clinical specialist care. My private lactation consultant practice ensures that the breastfeeding mother and baby are able to receive the right care, at the right time, in the right place, and by the right healthcare professional.
I’m passionate in delivering excellence in quality care and I am and active member of Lactation Consultants education groups IBLCE – International Board of Lactation Consultant Examiners, Who's Who in Breastfeeding Support and Lactation in the UK - LCGB I was accepted to study for the UNICEF UK Baby Friendly Initiative Leaders Qualification Leader - Baby Friendly Initiative and completed this in 2024. I am in the process of working towards the Bond Solon Expert Witness qualification via the University of Aberdeen Expert Witness Training. I’ve recently completed 40 years of NHS service in Scotland and now semi retired from my NHS roles.
I have supported University lecturers on breastfeeding and lactation-related modules in Aberdeen. I also teach breastfeeding/lactation sessions to healthcare professionals.
As a Registered Midwife and IBCLC I continue to support and empower mothers in the early days/ months of motherhood, and enable them to have an enjoyable experience of breastfeeding.
Breastfeeding has been a big part of my life since I had my first baby in 1992 – breastfeeding him, giving birth to a daughter in 1994, and then training as a midwife and Lactation Consultant (IBCLC). I am now a proud grandmother of four breastfed babies each with their unique breastfeeding journeys.
Breastfeeding is the physiologically normal way to feed a baby, however much of the knowledge around breastfeeding has been lost in our culture. So sometimes families need a little bit of in-person help and support (in addition to some patience and practice!) to get through some of the challenges they and their babies might face with breastfeeding.
In my spare time, you’ll find me working on art projects, DIY and gardening.
